{NOTE: The next five entries, including this one, will conclude my recorded journal, for a total of fifty journal entries. I finally decided to release them to the public, seeing as how a new case is unfolding involving my niece.}
I got a text last night. From thealias. Now, I wouldn't have been too shaken up from that, if what happened later last night hadn't happened.
So let's back up. I had just finished dinner in my hotel room when my phone buzzed. ID was unknown, but it was signed by thealias.
Hello Inspector. Having
a nice day? I'm here to
inform you that you've
got your nose in where
it doesn't need to be.
So either butt out, or
something bad is gonna
happen. You may know
what you're dealing with
with, but you have no
idea what POWER you're
up against. So sit back
and let me do what I do.
~thealias~
At the time, I didn't care for this threat at all. So I texted back.
Hello thealias. If you
had the balls, you'd
tell me this all in
person. I won't leave
this alone.
~Kornelson~
I didn't get a response, which is just fine with me. I soon went to bed, but not even five minutes passed before I heard a sound at my window. Getting up, I opened the blinds to find absolutely nothing. "Really..." I said. I turned back to go to bed... and froze.
There was figure sitting on my bed.
Masky.
He had a pale white face, accompanied by hollow eyes filled with darkness. He simply sat, his hands folded in his lap. He wore ragged jeans and a plain black tee. He spoke to me, but not verbally. "Gregory... you're going to die if you keep this up." He stood up and took a step forward, now only six feet away from me. "We're busy right now, and he really doesn't need you interfering."
I simply smirked, hiding that I was actually kinda freaked out. "You think threats are gonna stop me?"
No expression could be seen on Masky. I don't think he even could make expressions...but if he could, he'd be smirking right back at me. "Oh Inspector. Not at all. I can't stop you from doing anything. I could kill you, but I'm not permitted to. He's being gracious. He's giving you a chance. I'm hoping common sense will stop you." All of a sudden, he was standing right in front of me, his face in mine. He seemed to be trying to sense what I was feeling. "You fear on the inside. You know this is an unnatural being to you. You don't know his capabilities... funny thing is, I don't even know what all he can do. But that's okay, I serve him without question." He backed his face away, standing in place. "Though it won't matter. Someone will be taking my place soon, and you'll find me hanging on a tree, drained of blood, and my organs on the forest floor."
I blinked.
He was gone.
BZZT! My phone buzzed. Opening it, I read a new text message:
I told you... sigh. Stop
while you still can.
~thealias~
I laid in bed, shaking ever so slightly. Masky had been in my room, came and went... in the literal blink of an eye. I shook my head, snapping out of my slight panic. I was resolute. This was not going to stop me. Edward was missing, Kayle was missing, and Fear Dubh was still out there... the slenderman... haunting Duncan Woods. And for whatever reason, he wasn't leaving. Perhaps he was waiting for me to leave...
Well. He was going to be very much disappointed. I wasn't going anywhere.
I'll be seeing you soon, Slendy...

Journal Entry #45 - The Church
June 1st, 2013, 3:40 Pm
Today, as I had planned, I visited the church. St. John's Lutheran Church.
It was quite a beautiful church, a wonderful choir loft, magnificent organ... oh, speaking of the organ...
Yeah, found something etched into the organ's music stand. it said 21:1:9
Day, month, year? Days, hours, minutes?
I sat there for a moment, trying to think of all the possibilities. Then I realized something super obvious: I'm in a church.
I ran down the stairs, into one of the pews, and grabbed a bible. I flipped to the 21st book, chapter 1, verse 9. It was Ecclesiastes.
"What has been, that will be; what has been done, that will be done. Nothing is new under the sun!"
Oh my lands, when I read that... it terrified me. If this had anything to do with Slenderman...
I think... and I hate saying this... I want to go back to the woods.
I guess we'll see what happens...

Journal Entry #44 - The Rose
May 31st, 2013, 7:23 Pm
No activity still. Walking around town Wednesday, I
felt like I had come upon another dead end.
That is, until I noticed something quite peculiar.
A rose.
But it was no ordinary rose. It’s color wasn’t red,
or white, or even pink. It was blue. As blue as the sky. I found this quite
peculiar, seeing as how I’m pretty sure roses weren’t supposed to be blue. I immediately
bagged it up, and sent it in for analysis to a classified lab. I got the reports
via email this morning, stating that the rose had not been tampered with. I had
made a rare discovery.
Unbeknownst to the doctors though, I believe the
blue rose has a part to play in the strange goings-ons here in Grandhaven. Why
would I say that? It’s simple. I found the rose right in front of Edwards
church. So? What does that have anything
to do with this? Well, I just happened
to find another blue rose. This time, in Edward’s front yard. Upon even more searching around, I found yet another blue rose near one of the
entrances to DuncanWoods. This is
NOT coincidence! Obviously, these places are all linked somehow. What I
have yet to figure out is what part in this the church plays.
I will be visiting the church tomorrow.
Until then…

Journal Entry #42 - Loutit District Library
May 24th, 2013 - 7:53 Pm
I’m very glad I decided to visit the library today.
It turned out to be quite fruitful.
The Loutit District Library has been around for
quite some time, and invites everyone to wants to sit back, relax, and have a
good read.
I went to the front desk and asked if they had a
microfiche.
“I’m sorry sir,” she told me, “the microfiche is
unavailable to the public.”
I leaned closer to her. “And why is that?”
She bit her bottom lip and replied, “I actually
don’t know sir. Manager’s orders.”
“Might I speak with the manager?”
She called him in, and out came the manager, Mr. Morder
VanTepp.
“Hello,” he said, with a deep voice that surprised
me at first. “How can I be of assistance?”
“Well, I was wondering about your microfiche. Is
there a chance I could take a look at some old newspapers?”
Mr. VanTepp looked around, then said, “What dates
would you be wanting to look at?”
“January 14th, 1996.”
“Ah yes, the dates for Glenn Eaton’s death, and the
disappearance of the west gate keys. I’m sorry; we don’t have a copy of the
newspapers from those dates sir. We’re not sure where we could find them.”
I leaned in towards his ear. “Or perhaps maybe you
just don’t want me to look at them? Hm? Could that be why you don’t have a
copy?”
Mr. VanTepp straightened his back. “Absolutely
absurd! What on earth makes you think we would hide those articles? It’s
history!”
“Maybe because you’re scared someone will find out how
the gatekeeper died?” I was totally poking into the darkness here, seeing if
what I just said actually rung some truth to it.
Morder was frozen. He didn’t know what to say. “You
are no ordinary civilian, are you?”
I looked at him straight in the eye. “I am not working for the government. I am not an inspector. I do not have a badge showing proof of who I
am.” I revealed my badge to him, then once again whispered in his ear, “and I
do not wish to see the requested
newspapers from the dates previously discussed about.”
Morder nodded rapidly. “Of course sir, of course.
Right this way…”
Yes ladies and gentlemen, there are times when I
find myself in a completely absurd situation, and find myself cocking my head
at previous events, and what I did to cause them. Trust me, though when I say
this: the insanity often leads to the sane.
Within five minutes, I was sitting down, looking at
old newspaper clips, and being offered sodas, snacks, and free books. All of
which I declined. He eventually left me alone, and I continued to read the
“missing copies”. I would be lying if I said that I didn’t enjoy the
expressions made on Mr. VanTepp’s face as he flustered about.
January
9th, 1996, Glenn Eaton missing.
I stopped at that one. I continued to read the
article. It went:
On January ninth, the Duncan
Woods’ gatekeeper, Glenn Eaton, disappeared. Officials were called by the city
to investigate, and upon entering his home, found out quickly that Mr. Eaton
was not there. Officials searched high and low for him, but found no trace
whatsoever.
I continued on with the dates for a little longer,
until I reached one that sparked my entrance.
January
14th, 1996, Glenn Eaton found dead in Duncan Woods.
I didn’t move for a moment. The woods. Duncan Woods. A place almost everyone
has been, including me and Edward. I read the article.
On January 14th,
Glenn Eaton, Duncan Woods’ gatekeeper, was found dead in the woods. Officials
found him on the ground with multiple holes in his body. The County Sheriff had
this to say: “After a complete examination of the body, we have concluded that Mr.
Eaton was stabbed by a knife multiple times, each aimed for a specific organ in
his body. Once stabbed, the organs were pulled out, put in plastic bags, and
placed around his body. I have never seen such a gruesome murder in my entire
life.” The Sheriff then proceeded to leave.
Officials made a wide
search of Duncan Woods, but found no leads to Eaton’s killer. The case was
dropped one week later.
How frightening.
I walked out of the room where Mr. VanTepp was
waiting for me. “So,” I asked, “why the deception?”
He looked at the ground, then looked me in the eye
with fear. “We were told… no, threatened,
by two men dressed in black to never show
those specific dates. They had also been going around town, covering up the
strange things that happened to Mr. Eaton, or so I’m told.” He leaned closer.
“Sir, as far as anyone knows, Mr. Eaton wasn’t murdered.”
I nodded. “Well, thank you for your cooperation.” I
gave him my card. “Call me when things start getting weird, or if you see those
men in black again. Kay?”
He nodded quickly. “Yes of course.”
I left the library feeling quite… dissatisfied. I
needed more answers. Obviously, Glenn Eaton was murdered, and according to
research, he died almost exactly the
way the Slenderman would kill someone.
A shiver went down my spine as I walked through
town. I need to find someone who knows more about what happened on that fateful
day in Duncan Woods.
Off
for more answers…

Journal Entry #41 - Masky
May 23rd 2013 - 6:15 Pm
As I said before, I went to do some research. I
found an interesting fact about the Slenderman. He has a Proxy. A “henchman” of
sorts. Someone to warn others of their impending doom, or to do Slender’s dirty
work. The latest proxy Slender has had, is a character called “Masky”, and
usually is depicted with a white mask, and black eyes. Nothing about a red
cloak, but not everyone knows everything. This much is clear: Slender has a
Proxy. The other thing about Masky, is that he is completely human, or so my
sources say. He might have gained “powers”, being Slender’s Proxy, but he is,
in every sense, human. That means he could be an everyday pedestrian, someone
I’ve met while I’ve been here even!
The next thing I researched was Duncan Woods’
history. I found exactly what I was searching for. The key to the gate,
evidently, was lost when the gatekeeper died, so they had to close the gate.
Now, you can get into the woods anywhere, but the gate was there for the
official entrance.
Is there a connection between the key and Slender’s Proxy?
Did I find something they didn’t want found? Why don’t they want me to find it?
Why didn’t Masky stop me?
I continued to research. The gatekeeper’s name, I
found, was Glenn Eaton. I’ll have to see if there’s anything else on him, but
for now, that’s as far as I’ll be able to go.
I think I’ll go to the library. Maybe I can find
something in some old newspapers, or perhaps someone there can lend me some
more info.
Looks
like I need to, “read up” on some things…

Journal Entry #40 - The OTHER man in the woods
May 22nd, 2013 - 7:24 Pm
I went to the woods yesterday. What started as a
search for the Slenderman ended up turning into something completely different.
I went back to the lake I found. Looking in my
mirror, I did not see Slender. I decided to sit a bit and take in a little bit
of nature. It was amazing how scary a beautiful place like this could become,
all because of one man. One man can make such a difference it seems.
I took my shoes and socks off and dipped my toes
into the lake. Upon touching the water’s surface, I reeled my legs back. The
water was warm! It felt amazing! I slowly put my hand in and let the warm water
soak my palm. That’s when I noticed something shine at the bottom of the lake.
Interestingly enough, the lake was extremely
clear, and I was able to see most of the plants and such at the bottom, as
well as a metallic rod shaped object. So I did what most sensible people would
do.
I stripped my shirt off and dove in.
My, the water felt wonderful. I wanted to stay here forever. But I swam to the bottom
and grabbed the object. Once on shore, I examined it. It was a key. A big fat,
bronze key.
I looked up. I wish I hadn’t. There, from the other
side of the lake, a man was staring right at me. It wasn’t Slender. It was…
something else. A man in a mask. I whipped out my cell-phone and snapped a
picture, but he disappeared. Somehow, I managed to catch him in the picture as
he ran away, but I missed the face.
The biggest thing I noticed was his white face, and
black eyes. Something told me I’d be seeing him more often.
I left the woods in no hurry. I wasn’t very
disturbed by what I had seen. Just curious, and more annoyed with even more questions that needed to be
answered.
I’ll be doing some more research tomorrow, and will
update asap.
Until
then…
